Holden VL Commodore BT1 Model History
The BT1 option code was developed specifically for Australian police forces during the 1980s, allowing pursuit vehicles to be ordered with high-performance mechanicals while maintaining a discreet exterior appearance. In VL form, the BT1 package often combined the lightweight VL body with V8 power, heavy-duty running gear and minimal external badging. Many were worked hard in service and few survived intact, making genuine BT1 cars highly sought after today. Former police examples, particularly V8-powered cars, have become cult favourites among Holden enthusiasts for their rarity, provenance and no-nonsense performance ethos.
