Description
The first-generation S-Type was Jaguar's return to the compact-ish rear-wheel-drive sports saloon space after a long absence, and it is ageing into a proper classic. Penned by Geoff Lawson and finished by his successor Ian Callum, the X200 references the original 1960s Mk2 Jaguar with its round rear lamps and long bonnet, and it still looks genuinely beautiful. This is the V8 SE spec, which means the 4.0-litre AJ-V8 engine producing 281hp, the more desirable choice over the V6 for both performance and collector appeal. At current prices, these are seriously undervalued cars.
Finished in silver over a black leather interior, the combination works perfectly with the Jaguar styling. The body is straight with all panel gaps consistent and factory-correct, the iconic chrome mesh grille is undamaged, and all Jaguar badging is present and correct. No obvious rust, no collision evidence. The headlights show moderate hazing typical of the era, which is a straightforward polish or replacement job. The one notable cosmetic issue is the alloy wheels, which show clear coat deterioration resulting in a tarnished, oxidised finish. This is purely cosmetic but it does stand out. A refurb on those wheels transforms the whole car.
Inside, the black leather interior is complete and functional with all the SE appointments present. Dashboard is crack-free, a significant positive for a Queensland car. The burr walnut veneer shows some age and mild lacquer wear but is not delaminating. The original Jaguar head unit is present with a CD stacker in the boot, the factory Sat Nav is there, and the car comes with log books and owner's manual, which is increasingly rare at auction. The boot is clean with no signs of water ingress. Engine number 0105030726 is recorded. Mileage is honest at 225,817km but that is not a concern for the AJ-V8 when properly maintained.
