Description:

1964 Ford Thunderbird Coupe - Cream - 390ci V8, Automatic - Personal Luxury Classic

Price Guide: $20,000 - $32,000

1964 Ford Thunderbird fourth-generation coupe, cream, 390ci FE V8, automatic transmission, four-seat personal luxury configuration, left-hand drive.

Description

The fourth-generation Thunderbird, produced from 1964 to 1966, represents Ford at its personal luxury peak. Ford sharpened the body styling significantly for this generation, introducing a more angular roofline, the distinctive rear louvre window, and a longer, lower stance that made the third-generation car look almost round by comparison. The 1964 model year was the first of this generation and the cream exterior is a natural choice for the T-Bird, showing off the long, flowing lines to good effect.

Photos confirm the 390 FE V8 is under the bonnet, visible in a detailed engine bay shot showing the correct period gold air cleaner and the Ford 390 engine in presentable condition. Blue replacement spark plug wires and a modern battery are noted, along with some surface oxidation on the firewall and lower areas, which is consistent with the vehicle's age. A significant observation from the engine bay photos is that the front bumper and fascia assembly appears absent, which should be factored into any assessment of what the vehicle requires. Inside, the signature T-Bird individual rear bucket seats with centre armrest are intact, trimmed in black vinyl with the correct vertical pleated stitching. The distinctive 1964-specific rear louvre window is present and straight. Door panels show the correct pleated upper section in good condition with only light surface scratches on the lower gloss panel. One small tear is visible on the rear seat cushion. The period-correct Thunderbird spinner hubcaps are fitted with replacement whitewall-style Windboro radial tyres.

Fourth-generation Thunderbirds are a distinctive and stylish alternative to the more commonly seen muscle cars of the same era. They attract buyers who want genuine 1960s American luxury with a strong visual identity. Comparable fourth-gen Thunderbird coupes in driver-quality condition have traded from AUD $20,000 to $35,000 in Australian sales, with restored and complete examples at the upper end. This car requires assessment of the missing front fascia before final valuation.
