Overview

This is one of the more elaborately constructed rings in the auction. A 5.80ct pear tanzanite sits in a three-claw yellow gold setting, surrounded by a diamond-encrusted halo that flows into sweeping scroll shoulders, each covered in pave-set diamonds. The two-tone construction uses yellow gold for the ornate framework and scroll motifs, while the diamond-set surfaces are rhodium-plated for maximum brightness. The gallery beneath reveals symmetrical filigree with pierced scroll cutouts, showing craftsmanship that extends beyond what is visible from the top.



The tanzanite presents a deep violet-blue with the characteristic pleochroism that gives tanzanite its reputation for colour-play. At 5.80 carats (measuring 16.05 x 9.85mm), the pear shape elongates the stone's visual presence. The "slightly included" grade means internal characteristics are present but do not significantly impact the stone's overall beauty or transparency. Standard heat treatment is applied, which is universal for commercial tanzanite.



From the photos, the ring is in excellent condition with all 247 diamonds present and the metalwork showing no wear. The inner shank is stamped "585" and inscribed "TZ5.80ct D1.335ct". An independent insurance valuation (Platinum Jewellery Valuations, FGAA appraiser, June 2025) assessed replacement value at AUD $68,000.
