1966 Auburn Speedster Boat Tail Convertible "AUDREY" - Blue - 47,589 Miles - 350ci V8 Automatic

Overview

This 1979 Auburn Convertible represents a fascinating chapter in American automotive history. Auburn, the legendary marque that dominated the 1930s with its stunning Art Deco designs and performance credentials, was revived in the 1970s as a modern interpretation of classic elegance. This particular example is a two-door, two-seat convertible powered by a 350 cubic inch V-angle eight-cylinder engine, delivering genuine period performance with the romance of open-air motoring. The induction setup adds character and capability to an already compelling package. With just 47,589 miles on the odometer, this is a remarkably low-mileage survivor from the muscle car era's twilight years.

The Auburn nameplate carries significant collector appeal. The 1979 model year sits at an interesting inflection point, bridging the fuel crisis austerity of the mid-1970s with the emerging performance renaissance of the 1980s. This convertible, finished in striking blue with a navy soft top, presents as a well-preserved example of its era. The paint holds good gloss across the body panels with minor stone chipping visible on the bonnet leading edge, consistent with highway use. Panel gaps are even and body lines are straight, indicating no major accident history. The convertible top is in serviceable condition with the navy fabric showing age-appropriate patina. Chrome trim and brightwork are present throughout, with the iconic Auburn hood ornament and badging clearly visible. Whitewall tyres and wire wheel covers complete the classic aesthetic.

The interior showcases period-correct black leather seating with vertical pleating detail, complemented by a wood-rimmed steering wheel and comprehensive instrumentation. The dashboard features a full complement of analogue gauges housed in a wood-trimmed binnacle, including speedometer (calibrated to 200 km/h, confirming Australian specification), fuel, temperature, and oil pressure readouts. The odometer displays 47,589 miles, a genuinely low figure for a vehicle of this age. Climate control, power steering, and power windows are fitted as standard. The cabin shows honest wear consistent with the vehicle's age and mileage, with the leather displaying expected patina and the dashboard trim showing minor fading typical of 1970s materials exposed to decades of sunlight.

Mechanically, the 350 cubic inch V-angle eight-cylinder engine is the centrepiece. .
At the 1979 price point and with the 350ci V8, this Auburn sits in an interesting market position. Classic American convertibles of this era, particularly those with performance credentials and low mileage, have seen steady appreciation. Right-hand drive Australian specification, and genuine low mileage place it at the stronger end of that range. For collectors seeking an accessible, driveable classic with authentic period performance and the romance of open-air motoring, this Auburn represents compelling value.
Condition

The exterior presents in good order for a vehicle of this age. The blue metallic paint is clean and holds gloss well, with minor stone chipping on the bonnet leading edge and light weathering on the hood ornament consistent with highway use. All body panels are straight with even gaps, and there are no visible dents or creases. The convertible top is navy fabric in serviceable condition, showing age-appropriate wear but no tears or significant damage. Chrome trim is present throughout, including bumpers, trim rings, and badging. Whitewall tyres are fitted with wire wheel covers, presenting the classic aesthetic authentically. The interior leather shows honest patina with expected wear on the seat bolsters and steering wheel rim. The dashboard trim exhibits minor fading typical of 1970s materials. All gauges and controls appear functional. The engine bay is clean and well-presented.
