Description
Hot rods built on the "Old Yella" fibreglass mould carry genuine pedigree in the Australian custom car scene. The mould replicates the iconic 1934 Ford five-window coupe body, one of the most desirable shapes in all of hot rodding, and builders who use it typically invest serious time and money to do it justice. This example absolutely does. The Royal Blue fibreglass body is finished in a deep, show-quality gloss with no visible cracks, chips, or stress marks. The build takes the traditional lakes car approach: engine fully exposed with no hood sides, a significant front-to-rear rake, open cycle-style front fenders, no front bumper, and side-exit polished lakester exhaust headers that rise vertically either side of the engine in classic show fashion.
The Ford 302 Windsor V8 is colour-coordinated to match, with a red-painted block, polished aluminium finned valve covers with Ford script, a polished oval air cleaner, polished stainless tubular headers, blue spark plug leads, and braided stainless fuel and oil lines throughout. The engine bay is immaculately detailed and show-ready. Inside, the custom maroon alcantara interior is trimmed to a very high standard, with bucket seats, matching pleated door cards, loop carpet, a chrome banjo steering wheel on a tilt column, and a white-face instrument cluster with speedometer and tachometer. A floor-mounted automatic shifter sits centre console. A fire extinguisher with a current inspection tag is fitted in the Royal Blue carpeted boot. Red-painted Ford-style wire wheels with wide whitewall tyres complete the period-correct hot rod stance.
With just 968km showing on the trip display and a restricted use registration in place, this is essentially a new show car. Quality "Old Yella" builds with this level of engine and interior finish typically change hands in the $45,000 to $75,000 AUD range in Australia, with the most detailed examples pushing higher. The show-car specification and extremely low use put this firmly in the upper tier.
