Overview
The AM General HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) needs no introduction. Conceived in the early 1980s to replace the aging Jeep across US military roles, over 280,000 were built across multiple configurations. This 1987 example carries serial number 027206 and was delivered under US Army contract DAAE07-83-C-R034 in June 1987. The original military data plate identifies it as an M-1025A2 Armament Carrier variant in the 1 1/4 ton, 4x4 configuration. It has been VASS-complied in Victoria (certificate V0024206, December 2022) for Australian road use under NB1 light goods vehicle category, with a modified GVM of 3,490kg.
The exterior is finished in silver and presents well for a 37-year-old working vehicle. The riveted aluminium body construction is intact throughout, with panels straight and no evidence of major collision damage. The vehicle has been fitted with a front brush bar with integrated winch, LED headlights, LED auxiliary light bars on the rear bumper, roof-mounted amber clearance lights, and Kanati Mud Hog mud-terrain tyres on black multi-spoke alloy wheels. The signature HMMWV portal axle gearboxes are visible at each corner, providing the extreme ground clearance this platform is known for. Military markings and data plates remain in place, including a visible dent on the right rear quarter panel near the tail light cluster as disclosed.
The interior has been converted for civilian use with light grey leather bucket seats fitted in all four positions. The original military instrument cluster and dashboard are retained, including the Faria Corp speedometer confirmed at 28,378 miles. Military communications equipment remains mounted on the centre console, including a field telephone unit and radio communications rack, adding to the authentic character of the vehicle. The corrugated rubber floor matting shows use-appropriate wear throughout.
Powered by the 6.2-litre naturally aspirated Detroit Diesel V8 with full-time four-wheel drive and portal axles, this HMMWV is mechanically configured as delivered. The air filter restriction gauge is fitted and reading within normal range. The fuel cap is marked JP5/8-Diesel Only, consistent with the military diesel specification.
