1974 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi - Sage Green and White - 44,950km - Bespoke EV Conversion by EVClassic
Price Guide: $35,000 to $65,000
1974 VW Type 2 Kombi, electric drivetrain conversion, rear-wheel drive, manual gearbox retained, 44,950km, 7 seats, right-hand drive.
Description
The Type 2 Kombi is one of the most recognisable and culturally loaded vehicles ever built. A 1974 bay-window example in sage green and white, converted to electric drive by Australian specialist EVClassic, occupies a genuinely rare corner of the market. This is not a rough transplant. The exterior presents at show quality. The two-tone sage green lower and white upper paint is deep and glossy across all panels with tight, consistent gaps and bright chrome work. A subtle aftermarket chin spoiler and a slightly lowered ride height give it a purposeful stance without compromising the iconic silhouette. The EVClassic conversion branding is applied as a tasteful decal on the lower door panel, and the van has clearly been presented to a high standard as part of the conversion build.
Inside, the interior has been sympathetically refreshed to match the conversion brief. Front seats are reupholstered in tan and caramel vinyl and present well. The original bay-window dashboard is retained with its period-correct gauge cluster, supplemented by the EV-specific controls including a drive/reverse toggle switch on the dash. Rear seating is a full seven-seat configuration across three rows with retrofitted seatbelts and added headrests, the rear bench clean and well-presented. The engine bay now houses the electric motor, inverter, and control systems with correctly colour-coded orange high-voltage cabling routed cleanly through the compartment. A Century Performance auxiliary 12V battery is fitted alongside the EV electronics. The conversion includes a Type 2 Mennekes charging connector on the rear panel and a Mode 2 portable charging cable is included with the vehicle. The odometer reads 44,950km, consistent with the vehicle's presentation.
Original 1974 Type 2 vans in comparable condition typically guide between AUD $18,000 and $28,000. Bespoke EV conversions of air-cooled Volkswagens by specialist builders range from $35,000 to $65,000 depending on battery capacity, range, and build quality. This example, completed by EVClassic and presented to a high standard, represents accessible entry into electric classic motoring. Vendor advises the conversion is fully functional as an electric vehicle.
