Overview
The 1949 Ford F1 represents the first generation of Ford's post-war light truck line, a model that defined American utility for a generation. This particular example has been comprehensively restored and transformed into a high-end custom restomod, combining iconic 1940s styling with modern performance, comfort, braking and suspension technology. The result is a vehicle that retains the unmistakable character of the original F1 while delivering a driving experience comparable to a modern performance cruiser.
At the heart of the build is a rebuilt 351 cubic inch Windsor V8 fitted with a mild camshaft, delivering strong performance and a purposeful V8 soundtrack. Power is transferred through a reconditioned C6 automatic transmission to a Ford 8.8-inch differential fitted with 3.5:1 gearing. This drivetrain combination provides excellent reliability, cruising capability and performance.
The chassis and suspension have been extensively upgraded. A Mustang II independent front suspension has been fitted, complete with rack-and-pinion power steering for significantly improved handling and steering response. The rear suspension has been converted from traditional leaf springs to a custom four-link setup incorporating heavy-duty chromoly Heim joints and a fully adjustable Panhard bar. The chassis has been custom notched and reinforced with heavy-duty tubular bracing throughout.
Ride quality and stance are controlled by a premium RideTech Shockwave air suspension system featuring HQ1000 series units at the front and HQ8000 series units at the rear, each incorporating integrated shocks and bump stops. The system is managed by a RideTech RidePro E5 air management system, allowing ride height adjustment directly from a smartphone.
The black exterior presents exceptionally well with excellent depth and gloss throughout. Complementing the bodywork are staggered 20-inch American Racing billet wheels measuring 20x8 inches at the front and 20x12 inches at the rear, giving the truck an aggressive and purposeful stance. Custom touches include a roll pan with integrated tail lights and a custom WeatherTech timber tray lid, creating a clean and refined rear profile.
Inside, the cabin has been completely retrimmed in custom black leather and combines classic styling with modern comfort. Features include air conditioning, one-piece power windows and a custom Bluetooth audio system with upgraded speakers. The result is a cabin equally suited to weekend cruising or extended touring.
