Description
The Burton is a Dutch-built microcar unlike anything else in the classic collector space. Designed by Dimitri Gobel and built by Burton Car Company in the Netherlands on Citroen 2CV running gear, it wears 1930s coachbuilt styling over a modern lightweight platform. The result is a car that looks like it belongs at a pre-war concours but drives like a simple, reliable, economical runabout. The signature feature is the single-piece tilting canopy that lifts as a whole unit to allow entry, a piece of theatre that no other production car replicates. This example carries Australian compliance approval (Approval No. 130906/1, issued December 2012), confirming it was personally imported and brought to road-legal standard for this market.
At 27,850 kilometres this is a remarkably low-mileage example. The navy blue bodywork shows in the photos with excellent depth and gloss across all panels, straight lines and consistent gaps throughout. The separate cycle-style front fenders with freestanding round chrome headlights, the prominent chrome vertical grille, and the hardtop coupe roofline with chrome windscreen surround all present very well. The frunk opens to reveal the whitewall spare tyre, battery, and access to engine components, consistent with the Burton's front-engine layout. Burtons are genuine collector pieces and Australian-complied right-hand-drive examples are exceptionally rare.
