ISHISHI - Spiraling Vortex Rose Window with Architectural Fantasy - Signed Work on Paper, 2002
Signed original work on paper. Surrealist architectural fantasy with central vortex motif. Colored pencil on paper. Unframed.

Description
Potentially the earliest confirmed work in the ISHISHI collection at auction, with the verso bearing a "© 2002" notation - placing it over two decades before the most recent works in this group. The composition features a large spiraling radial form at the centre - part turbine, part Gothic rose window, part vortex - in alternating segments of pink/mauve and green, with a dark eye-like form at its centre. Surrounding this focal element are fantastical architectural towers, arched doorways, domed buildings, stepped structures and Gothic-style windows. A large fragmented cloud or rock formation occupies the upper left. Glowing spheres or orbs are scattered throughout, and small silhouetted figures appear in some doorways.

The palette of mauves, greens, creams and earth tones is softer and cooler than many of the later works, suggesting possible evolution in the artist's use of colour over the 20+ year span of this collection. In good condition with clean paper and unfaded pencil.
