Born in Jaffa in 1927, he spent most of his life in Paris, surviving the war and going on to exhibit internationally for over five decades. Venice was one of his recurring subjects, its carnival masks, domes, and gondola poles lending themselves naturally to his layered, symbolic approach.

This colour lithograph on Arches paper captures a Venetian carnival scene with two costumed revelers in elaborate headdresses, a stylised bird on a patterned perch, the dome of a basilica rising in the background, and the iconic striped mooring poles of the lagoon. The title inscription "la longue melopee des vagues de Venise" appears within the image itself, handwritten in the lithographic stone. The work is hand-signed in pencil by Tobiasse and numbered 44 from an edition of 200. COA from Collins and Kent International Fine Art is included.

Signed Tobiasse lithographs of comparable size and period have traded internationally in the range of USD $500-$2,000 at auction. This is a decorative and well-documented work for the collector or a statement wall.

Specifications
Artist: Theo Tobiasse (Lithuanian-born French, 1927-2012)
Attribution: Signed original print
Title: La Longue Melopee des Vagues de Venise
Medium: Colour lithograph on Arches paper
Edition: 44/200
Image dimensions: 76 x 56 cm
Signature: Lower right, pencil
COA: Yes - Collins and Kent International Fine Art, Cert.
