1960 Morris Minor Convertible (Sunshine) - Old English White - 5,537 Miles - 1000cc A-Series 4-Cylinder, Manual - Professionally Restored
A rare factory Morris Minor Sunshine Convertible (Type MNR/SYN per build plate), professionally restored by Tomo's Tune-Ups (YouTube Build No. 005). 4-seat open-top body, right-hand drive, low-mileage example with NSW history.
Overview
The Morris Minor Convertible, designated MNR/SYN (Sunshine) by Morris Motors Ltd, is a genuinely rare variant of one of Britain's most loved cars. While the Minor sedan was produced in large numbers, the factory convertible saw comparatively limited production, and surviving Australian examples in restored condition are hard to find. Designed by Alec Issigonis and manufactured at Cowley, Oxford, the Minor's unitary construction was ahead of its time, and the Sunshine body brought genuine open-air motoring to a broad audience. This 1960 example is confirmed as a factory convertible by the original Morris Motors Ltd build plate in the engine bay, reading Type MNR/SYN, Car No. SMM/97330.
This car has been professionally restored by Tomo's Tune-Ups (YouTube Build No. 005), with the work documented publicly and the builder's plate affixed inside the bonnet lid. The Old English White paintwork presents in excellent condition throughout, with strong gloss and straight panels. Chrome trim is in very good order, including the iconic chrome grille surround, headlight bezels, and bumpers. The soft-top hood is black and in good condition. The body is fitted with aftermarket 5-spoke alloy wheels in place of the original steel rims. The 1000cc A-series engine sits in a well-presented engine bay with a polished cam cover, upgraded air filtration, and an additional water temperature gauge mounted below the dashboard.
The interior has been re-trimmed in burgundy vinyl, covering the front bucket seats, rear bench seat, door cards, and headlining. The trim is in very good condition with no visible damage or significant wear. The original Smiths speedometer reads 5,537 miles in the original MPH calibration. The dashboard retains its period-correct cream finish with chrome vent grille, fuel gauge, and oil pressure gauge. The original steering wheel with chrome spokes and red hub badge is in place. Boot opens to reveal a spare tyre and jack. The car presents as a thorough and sympathetic restoration.
