Overview
The Bentley Turbo R occupied a unique position in the automotive world from the mid-1980s through to the late 1990s. It was built for people who wanted genuine performance wrapped in hand-stitched leather and hand-laid walnut veneer. Powered by the legendary 6.75-litre turbocharged V8, the Turbo R could dispatch 100km/h from rest in under seven seconds while remaining entirely composed, a trick that eluded most performance cars of the era. This April 1994 example, confirmed by the original Bentley Motors Limited build plate (chassis H54734) and Australian compliance plate, is a genuine survivor in the colour combination that defines the model.
The dark forest green exterior is complemented by gold coach lines running the full length of the body, a detail that transforms what is already a commanding silhouette into something truly stately. The paint holds good gloss across all panels with even gaps and straight body lines throughout. The chrome vertical bar grille and Bentley winged badge present well, and the Bentley alloy wheels with their distinctive five-spoke design are in good order. The body is straight with no evidence of accident repair. Stone chips on the bonnet leading edge are consistent with 135,410 kilometres of genuine use and add honest character rather than detracting from the car.
Inside, the tan leather interior with contrasting dark green piping is thoroughly convincing. The burled walnut dashboard spans the full width and houses a set of round analog gauges including speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure, oil temperature, and fuel level, all in proper Bentley black on cream with chrome surrounds. The Bentley B-badged four-spoke steering wheel, the PRND32 automatic gear selector, the dual-zone climate control panel with individual upper and lower temperature sliders, the Becker radio/cassette unit, and the outside temperature gauge all function as designed. Front seat bolsters show cracking consistent with 135,000km of use, a normal characteristic of Connolly hides of this age. Rear seats and door cards present very well. Green Wilton-style carpets are intact throughout.
The 6.75-litre turbocharged V8 is confirmed original specification, with the Bentley cam cover, TURBO-badged rocker cover, and original manufacturer stickers all present in the engine bay.
