1960 Plymouth Fury Station Wagon - Pink and Cream - 75,013 Miles - 383ci V8, Push-Button TorqueFlite Automatic, LHD - Period Air Conditioning - Club Permit Registered VIC
Four-door station wagon body, 383ci V8, push-button TorqueFlite, and a period AC unit. One of the most striking cars in this auction.
Overview
The 1960 Plymouth Fury arrived at a pivotal moment in American automotive design. The dramatic swept fins, the panoramic windscreen, and the full-width chrome grille with individual headlight pods marked the final expression of 1950s exuberance before a more restrained design era took hold. The Fury nameplate occupied the top of the Plymouth lineup in 1960, and this station wagon variant adds practical versatility to the drama. Full-size Mopar station wagons from this era are genuinely rare survivors in Australia, and a running, registered example in the Fury specification is rarer still.
The exterior is finished in pink with a cream two-tone roof, a colour combination that is quintessentially period-correct and utterly commanding. The pink paint holds good gloss across all visible panels with light surface oxidation on the roof consistent with the vehicle's age. Chrome trim is largely intact and bright, including the characteristic swept-back front bumper, quad headlight surrounds, and the distinctive Plymouth rocket badge on the bonnet. The original gold-script Fury badges are present on both front guards and the rear, complete with the star-and-tail motif. A roof rack has been fitted. The original-style chrome hubcaps with whitewall tyres (205/75 section) are fitted on all four corners and present well.
The interior is a genuine time capsule. The front and rear bench seats are trimmed in two-tone tan and cream vinyl with the period brocade inserts, in honest condition consistent with the mileage. The door cards are original tan vinyl with chrome armrests, showing wear consistent with a well-used classic but structurally sound throughout. The dashboard retains its original Plymouth instrumentation with the period AM radio. Most significantly, this Fury features the iconic push-button TorqueFlite automatic selector (buttons: R, N, D, 2, 1) mounted to the left of the steering column, one of the most celebrated engineering features of late-1950s and early-1960s Chrysler products. An under-dash air conditioning unit has been fitted, a rare addition for a vehicle of this era.
Mechanically, this Fury is powered by the 383 cubic inch V8, Plymouth's top-specification powerplant for the 1960 model year, delivering strong torque in a full-size body. The engine bay is functional and presents as a working vehicle, with a modern alternator fitted alongside the original-configuration V8. The vehicle is currently on Club Permit registration in Victoria. Pickup from Thomastown VIC only, no transport available.
