1940 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery - Black with Ghost Flames and Rat Fink Mural - Weiand 6/71 Supercharged 350ci V8, Turbo 400 Automatic - Approx 1,500km Since Build Completion

A stunning one-off custom street rod combining iconic pre-war Chevrolet styling with a full-blown blown small block and show-level craftsmanship throughout.

Description

The 1940 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery is one of the most distinctive body styles to emerge from the pre-war American car era. With its elegant sedan roofline flowing into a closed panel rear, it offers a silhouette that even the most jaded car enthusiast will stop and stare at. Production of the Sedan Delivery ceased after 1941, making genuine examples rare in any market, and custom builds of this calibre rarer still.

This example has been built to a genuine show standard. The black paintwork was completed by named painter Joe Webb and features subtle ghosted graphics across the bonnet and flanks, with gold metal flake flames and a Rat Fink mural airbrushed across the rear panel. In different lighting conditions the ghost graphics reveal themselves through the deep black gloss, giving the car a dynamic, almost animated look that photographs exceptionally well. The Weiand 6/71 supercharger protrudes dramatically through a custom bonnet scoop, leaving no doubt about what lives underneath. Chrome Chip Foose-style 5-spoke billet wheels sit at all four corners over wide performance rubber, and the low stance ties the whole build together. Up front, the original horizontal chrome grille has been retained and polished, finished off with a trio of chrome skull detail bolts for a period-correct custom touch.

Power comes from a newly built 350ci Chevrolet V8 topped with a Weiand 6/71 supercharger running Holley dual carburettors, backed by an MSD Digital 6AL ignition system. The Turbo 400 automatic transmission features a 2,400rpm stall converter for strong off-the-line response. The front suspension has been fully upgraded with Tru Trac components, power steering and front disc brakes, giving this old-school custom genuine modern drivability. Vendor advises the vehicle is fitted with fully electric air conditioning and has travelled approximately 1,500 kilometres since completion of the build.

Inside, the retrim is executed to show standard. Custom grey bucket seats with snakeskin centre insert panels and gold accent piping match the door cards, which carry embossed gold flame motifs and custom speaker pods fitted with JVC/Drvn coaxials. The cargo area behind the seats is fully trimmed in the same grey with matching gold flames, two additional speakers, and a full-length mattress. The dash carries a Kenwood head unit and a dedicated rear-view camera monitor for the inbuilt reversing camera. Five Auto Meter gauges across a billet dash panel provide at-a-glance engine monitoring. The steering wheel is wrapped in matching snakeskin trim with a billet centre. Black loop carpet throughout ties it all together. This is a cohesive, thoroughly considered custom interior rather than a collection of parts.
