<b>Description</b><br>
One of the most varied and inventive works in the ISHISHI collection. The composition is built around Gothic pointed arches, lancet windows, crenellated battlements and spires, but populated with an unusual cast of figurative elements: a sun face, religious iconic figures, a seated Buddha-like figure, small human characters and grotesque whimsical forms occupy niched arcades throughout the buildings. The upper section is dominated by a massive coiling serpent or worm-like form crowned with a small figure, surrounded by swirling organic forms, a bat-like creature and arrow-topped towers. A cartoonish face peers out from the lower right corner.<br><br>
The range of imagery here exceeds the purely architectural works: this is outsider art or visionary art territory, with the horror vacui filling of every space creating an overwhelming, dream-like intensity. The tone ranges from light sky to dense shadow all achieved through hatching and cross-hatching in a single blue ballpoint. Minor handling marks visible on paper. Signed "ISHISHI" at lower right.
