Overview
In October 1973, Holden celebrated 25 years of Australian car manufacturing with a special limited-edition Premier sedan. Just 1,500 were produced, each finished in Anniversary Silver (colour code 1903) with exclusive 25th Anniversary badging on the C-pillar and steering wheel, a special ash vinyl interior with bucket seats and short console, selected instrumentation, rear speaker, push-button radio, and a factory clock. The option code was XY6 on the HQ Premier base, and at $4,205 new it was Holden's finest offering for the year.
This example is one of the most documented HQ Premier 25th Anniversaries you are likely to find at auction. The original GM warranty certificate is with the car, showing delivery to the first owner, Norman Birt of Taroona, Tasmania, on 2 January 1974. The car carries a Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania windscreen sticker confirming its Tasmanian history, and later a NSW Lion Pride Holden Car Club sticker from its next chapter as a loved club car. The documentation package also includes the original HQ Holden Service Manual (Vol 5), Trimatic Automatic Transmission Diagnosis Guide, period Holden Premier brochures, a Holden Customer Assistance confirmation letter dated 12 September 1998 confirming build specs from factory records, and a detailed 25th Anniversary research document.
The odometer reads 3,894 kilometres, consistent with a car that has been preserved and cared for rather than regularly driven. The Anniversary Silver paint presents with genuine gloss across all panels. The engine bay carries the original 202 cubic inch inline six-cylinder with red valve cover. The ash vinyl bucket seats and interior trim are in sound original condition throughout.
