Overview
The VX Commodore SS is the car a generation of Australians grew up wanting. Arriving in 2000, it brought the proven LS1 Gen III V8 into the final generation of fully locally-engineered Commodore, delivering 250kW and 450Nm through a four-speed automatic to the rear wheels. The SS package was the real deal, not a badge job. You got the distinctive red-face instrument cluster, the SS-embroidered fabric in that unmistakeable black-and-red pattern, the twin exhaust, the Gen III V8 fender badges, and a car that could genuinely embarrass things that cost three times as much. Phantom Black was arguably the pick of the colour range and the build plate on this one confirms paint code KE2065.
This is an unmodified, numbers-correct example with the original LS1 engine and four-speed automatic confirmed by the build plate. The exterior presents in good condition for age and kilometres. Phantom Black holds its gloss across the panels with the body lines remaining straight and panel gaps even throughout. The four original five-spoke SS alloys are fitted with 295/45ZR17 Racing Pro tyres. A full-size matching spare alloy sits in the boot well. Both Gen III V8 fender badges and SS quarter badges are present and intact. The headlights, fog lights, and tail lights are all clear and undamaged. A tow hitch is fitted.
Mechanically, the LS1 engine bay is clean and unmodified. No aftermarket intake, no forced induction, no evidence of performance modifications. The Gen III V8 in this application is well regarded for longevity, and at 359,007km this one has clearly been kept running. The red-face instrument cluster, cruise control stalk, TRAC CTRL and PWR mode buttons at the gear selector, and steering-wheel audio controls are all present and correct. The Eurovox single-disc CD head unit is original-fit. The boot carpet is clean, and the VX Series Owners Handbook is present in the car.
