Overview
The 1989 Toyota Hilux RN90R DX has been transformed beyond any reasonable expectation. This is not a modified ute, it is a purpose-built show truck with a documented build, engineering certification and a previous road registration history in both New South Wales and Victoria. The vendor advises significant time, effort and expense have gone into creating this professionally finished build.
The heart of the conversion is a Lexus 1UZ-FE 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine, the 32-valve quad-cam unit that powered the LS400 and lives in these applications forever. The "V8 FOUR CAM 32" cam cover lettering is clearly visible in the engine bay, along with the Lexus intake plenum badge. The factory Toyota 22R 2.4-litre four-cylinder has been removed and the 1UZ-FE conversion is paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Vendor advises the engine swap has been professionally installed and the vehicle carries engineering certification papers for the modifications, which are supplied with the vehicle.
The air suspension system transforms this Hilux from a workhorse into a show truck. At show presentation height the LOWLUX sits dramatically low, tucking the custom alloys deep into the guards. Three toggle switches in the centre console control the system, with the compressor and air tank clearly visible in the tray area. The air suspension allows the truck to lower for display or raise to a practical height for driving.
The Lexus-inspired front-end conversion is the signature visual element. A Lexus-style chrome grille and Lexus badge replace the factory Hilux nose, giving rise to the LOWLUX name. Finished in teal over a silver chrome front bumper, the exterior presents with strong panel consistency and a high-gloss finish throughout. Minor stone chips on the bonnet leading edge are consistent with real-world use. Custom flush taillights are fitted at the rear. The tray carries a diamond-plate aluminium insert and bears the LOWLUX name in silver lettering on the tailboard.
The interior is full show quality. Both front seats and all door cards are trimmed in a custom diamond-stitch caramel tan leather with black suede surround and black piping. The dashboard has been re-trimmed in matching tan, carrying a Kenwood DPX-M3900BT Bluetooth head unit in a custom surround. The instrument cluster is original Hilux. A Momo 3-spoke suede steering wheel replaces the factory unit. The automatic gear selector is trimmed in matching tan leather.
The Toyota factory identification plate confirms MODEL RN90R-CRPSSQ, BUILT DATE AUG 89, FRAME NO JT732RN9009000873. The ADM compliance plate confirms GVM 2050, TOYOTA HILUX, 09/89. VIN confirmed in the door jamb as JT732RN9009000873.
Vendor advises the vehicle has previously been fully registered in New South Wales and Victoria. Engineering certification papers for the modifications are included.
