Description:

1968 Toyota Corona RT50 Coupe - Cream - 93,824km - 1,490cc 2R Inline-4, 4-Speed Manual - JDM Original

The RT50 Corona Coupe is one of the most compelling Japanese classics of the 1960s, and good ones do not come up often. This 1968 example is a Japanese domestic market original, confirmed by the factory Toyota data plate in Japanese script, and it presents in exceptional condition for an unrestored car of this age.

The Car

The RT50 generation Corona ran from 1966 to 1970, and the two-door Coupe body was always the low-volume variant, making it significantly scarcer than the four-door sedan today. This one wears its original cream paint in very presentable condition, with good gloss, straight panels, and even gaps throughout. The front end is all about presence: four round headlights in a wide horizontal surround, the Toyopet crown emblem at centre, chrome bumpers with period driving lights, and classic bullet-style door mirrors. The Toyopet script badge on the boot lid is original and intact.

The factory Toyota data plate confirms the engine as the 2R unit, 1,490cc four-cylinder, 78.0mm bore by 78.0mm stroke, producing 70PS at 5,000rpm. The engine number 2R736017 is stamped on the block. The Yazaki km/h speedometer is further confirmation of JDM origin. The floor-shift 4-speed manual transmission operates as expected for a Japanese market car of this era.

The interior is one of the highlights of this lot. Black vinyl upholstery on individual front bucket seats and a full-width rear bench is in excellent condition, with minimal bolster wear visible. The woodgrain dashboard surround, original steering wheel, analogue gauge cluster, radio, and chrome interior handles all present as original and complete. The headlining is in reasonable condition. A Yazaki km/h speedometer reads 93,824 kilometres.
